Cibinong is the administrative center of Bogor Regency. This area was originally a merger of nine settlement groups by Governor General Baron Van Inhof in 1745. These nine groups are the core of Bogor society to this day. According to Government Regulation Number 6 Year 1982, The capital of Bogor Regency was moved and established in Cibinong.

Since 1990, Government activities are centralized at the Government Office in Cibinong. Whereas, based on information, The Cibinong area was prepared as a replacement for the government capital of Jakarta in the 1980s. Geographically, Cibinong Regency is located in the northern lowlands of Bogor. The height of Cibinong ranges between 110 until 152 meters above sea level, with slightly hilly terrain around the riverbanks.

Therefore, It's not surprising that Cibinong has a temperature that is almost the same as the hot areas in Depok or South Jakarta. This is different from other areas in Bogor which are famous for their cool climate.

Although Cibinong is located in the lowlands and is crossed by several rivers, Cibinong is known as a flood-free district since ancient times. The name Cibinong itself hasorigin which not many people know. It is believed to originate from two syllables, “ci”, which means river or water flow and binong which means the name of the treeNudiflora Tetrameles. This tree is classified as a rare plant. The characteristic of the binong tree is its roots which spread along the surface of the soil and rocks.

STRONG program

Then why program STRONG (Urban Communities for Resilient Action)  supported by USAID, Miyamoto, CRS, WVI, LPBI NOW then Indonesian SCALE targeting this area ? Of noteIndonesia’s Historical Earthquakes fromGeoscience Australia and quotingEncyclopedia of World Geographythat, Cibinong is one of the areas that experienced damage severe due to the earthquake that occurred last year 1834, because earthquakes are always repeated, preparedness must be built early, not just community preparedness, but the government and its business institutions must prepare themselves.

Cibinong really needs attention because there are thousands of large and small scale industries in Cibinong, APKINDO data says more than 250 Large scale companies in Cibinong are in Cibinong. Meanwhile, from old map data (Old Map) issued by KITLV Cibinong is very important because the telephone network is along the main road, connecting Batavia and Bogor. (RN)
