“Knowledge is power. If we don't have knowledge, it may be very difficult to develop," said Sinta Kanyawati, Country Director A-PAD Indonesia in opening a virtual discussion held by disasterchannel.co, yesterday (23/12/2021).
Knowledge is power and very important for everyone to have. Disasterchannel.co is aware of the importance of knowledge about disasters which should reside in the minds of all citizens in Indonesia. On the process, knowledge is very difficult and has many challenges to get to the stage of being owned by everyone. Because this is what disasterchannel.co thinks, there must be good knowledge management to realize this dream.
This big dream wants to be realized slowly but surely. One of them is by holding a discussion event entitled "Knowledge Management in Disaster Management in Indonesia".
An explanation like a poem that stabs the mind was conveyed by Heru Prasetya, Board A-PAD Indonesia. Heru said the process of forming knowledge management is a long process. This process starts from finding and entering correct and accurate data, then assemble it into information that can bring out high integrity in the eyes of the reader.
In forming knowledge management, there are lots of challenges, especially now that there are various platforms, a wide variety of users with different tastes and interests and many other things.
“Creating a knowledge system is hard work, serious and critical, more than just breaking the news. Knowledge management is about increasing the use of organizational knowledge through information management practices and organizational learning to achieve excellence," said Heru.
Next Abdul Muhari, Head of Data Center, Information and Communication BNPB emphasizes that the current position in which we live now is between disasters that have already occurred and must be prepared for disasters that will occur in the future. Because disaster is a recurring phenomenon.
Abdul Muhari explained that there are disasters that are high frequency and low impact, like a flood. In this case, because of its frequent repetition, so people can adapt. Meanwhile for disaster events which are of low frequency, high impact, like an earthquake, knowledge management really needs to be developed on this matter.
"When there is a low frequency high impact disaster such as an earthquake, then they (Public) would not have known that the disaster had ever happened 600 last year. Therefore, we have to do knowledge management” said Abdul Muhari.
Meiky Sofyansyah, as the director of TEMPO completes the previous presentation and emphasizes the way knowledge is processed to become packaging that is acceptable to many people. Starting from creating content as points that must be presented, determine the target audience as a reference for marketing strategy, content packaging in various media, create an attractive website base.
“Knowledge is processed into acceptable packaging, like how to make puzzle pieces into a complete picture. All information is collected one by one and arranged, "said Meiky.
Another color in the discussion was presented by Mirza Pahlevi from Start-Up Academy Fortress. He explained that there needed to be two parts, one of which focuses on content and the other can strengthen the management and utilization of information technology. Because the world of disaster needs to bind many readers.
“We can unite all knowledge into one platform, Civil society can become a leader in knowledge management," said Mirza
The morning was bright until the clouds changed to bring heavy rain to accompany this long discussion. The heavy rain did not dampen the solemnity of the discussion. Along with the sound of raindrops falling, the concluding hum was read by Trinirmala Ningrung, The Director of the Scale Indonesia Foundation moderated the discussion.
This discussion resulted in the conclusion that knowledge management is needed for countries with various disaster threats in various regions. Because disaster is a recurring phenomenon. Knowledge management is needed especially for low frequency disaster phenomena, high impact. Advances in technology have made it possible for us to unite knowledge into one platform that contains data as well as stories about disaster management in Indonesia. There needs to be an initiative and an initiator to make a knowledge management road map in the disaster sector. (LS)
